Robert De Niro may be a legend with multiple trophies under his belt, but he seemed to be overcome with confusion when accepting his latest award. On Tuesday, the two-time Oscar winner accepted the Gordon Parks Patron of the Arts Award. The Raging Bull star fumbled while on the red carpet when asked what the honor meant to him.

“That’s a difficult question, because I’m … the only thing I know is ‘Shaft’ and ah, I, I, in fact I’m not. … You know I have not…” De Niro began.

Parks, who began his career as a Life photographer before becoming a filmmaker, is also well-known for both Shaft and The Learning Tree, along with nine other films. These seemed to be beyond De Niro’s interests, as he added,

“I haven’t been aware of certain things that Gordon Parks has done and I realize now that, ah, I should have been, but I wasn’t.”

Unfortunately for the 71-year-old star, the questions didn’t get any easier during the night. When asked about the success of a happy marriage, De Niro replied, “Don’t ask me.” De Niro’s wife of 18 years, Grace Hightower, was responsible for urging De Niro to accept the night’s honor.

Another star with his head in space is Jake Gyllenhaal. The actor, whose most recent work includes “Southpaw,” revealed to Esquire that humans’ behavior is influenced by the lunar cycle. Gyllenhaal stated that “We’re like 90% water, so naturally we are going to be affected by the moon when it’s full.”
