A retired baseball player, Darryl Hamilton, a center fielder most well-known for his years with the New York Mets team that reached the 200 World Series, was found dead Sunday in a suspected murder-suicide. The ex-MLB player was found fatally shot inside a Houston suburban home in Pearland, Texas. He was 50 years old.

Found along with the Hamilton was his 44-year-old girlfriend Monica Jordan. It is believed that the Monica Jordan murdered Hamilton, who was found near the entrance before turning the gun on herself in another area of the home. Jordan’s wounds are consistent with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The two were found after responding to a 911 call at about 4:45 p.m.

Authorities are unclear as of know the reasoning behind the suspected murder-suicide. Hamilton had been working for the MLB Network since 2013 after a career that spanned over 13 years and included playing time with the Milwaukee Brewers, Texas Rangers, Colorado Rockies, and the aforementioned New York Mets. Jordan was a Houston area attorney and the mother of a child that also belonged to the Hamilton. The child was found unharmed at the home and turned over to Child Protective Services.

The bodies were eventually turned over to the Galveston County Medical Examiner for examination and the investigation is currently ongoing. Autopsies have yet to be completed on the couple.
