PayPal customers in the U.S. come July, are going to be introduced to new terms and conditions, that will require them to oblige to automated text messages, emails, and marketing calls. The eBay-owned firm will require customers to close their accounts by 1st July this year if they are not in agreement with the new privacy policy and user agreement. Existing customers will only need to accept or decline the new terms and conditions. The company’s spokesman confirmed that they would accept any requests from customers to decline marketing outreach messages or emails even with their inclusion in the terms and conditions. The spokesman said that the company takes customer’s privacy seriously and that is why they have given them the option to unsubscribe from marketing material notifications by going to the settings.

The new agreement states that phone numbers are going to be shared with affiliates, and the user will be required to accept robocalls from these affiliates. PayPal will have the right to send prerecorded or auto-dialed texts or calls to the user with the phone number they signed in with. Users are obliged to accept calls that involve promotions and offers, questionnaires and surveys. The robocalls will include various topics such as dispute resolution, troubleshooting, and account notifications.

The Federal Communications Commission in the U.S. is on a mission to validate the technology that can help block spam mail and robocalls and is hoping telephone companies will offer these appropriate tools to their customers. Tom Wheeler, FCC’s chairman, said in a statement that users will only require a simple word to decline and there will be no need to fill a form. The FCC has gotten over 215,000 complaints from users so far and that is why the body is planning a major crackdown on spam email and robocalls.
