President Sepp Blatter has been a focal point of controversy within the sports world. He has been a target for criticism for how FIFA officials have handled decisions recently. As recently as Monday, FIFA finally announced that they will choose a successor for Blatter.

He has served as president of the federation for 17 years, but will not run again for election. Criticism is primarily stemming from alleged fake money taken by the president during his tenure.

Sepp Blatter has had his allies in the past, but that is expected to change with the new announcement. Former FIFA vice president Jeffrey Webb has been under scrutiny as well. Webb actually appeared in court that took place in Brooklyn. He plead not guilty to 17 distinct felony level charges.

Similarly, Prince Ali bin al-Hussein has joined in the opposition to Blatter. He sided with Coke as a sponsor for the World Cup. They are launching an independent investigation in to some of the reforms that are taking place. Insiders are unsure as to whether Prince Ali is set to run again for these reforms.

A focal point of discussion is surrounding Qatar’s bid for the World Cup. FIFA is contributing money to Clinton Foundation to match the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee. That is being used to build infrastructure once the bid was finalized. Figures range between $100,000 on behalf of FIFA and $250,000 from Qatar. The federation has hired consultation from the Quinn Emmannual law firm to manage these processes.
