Researchers Say Condoms Use Not Related to Erection Problems

Over one third of participants in a Journal of Sexual Medicine study did not understand how to correctly use a condom.

Condom users report a common complaint that condoms contribute to erection problems. However, a recent study indicates that more education is required so that users are aware of the proper condom usage procedures and expert claim that condoms do not contribute in any way to erection difficulties.

The study was conducted studying 479 heterosexual males from 18-24 and concluded that those reporting erection issues with condoms were likely having unrelated erection issues already.
A third of the studies participants were not aware of correct condom techniques according to the study’s researchers who suggested that those participants reporting condom related impotency should opt for psychosexual therapy or be given additional educational information.

Dr. Cynthia Graham, one of the research authors conducting the study, reiterated that “condom-associated erection problems have been a very under-researched topic.” She commented that the increasing evidence suggests that these erection issues could influence whether individuals use condoms from start to finish of sexual intercourse.

This research paper was published by the Journal of Sexual Medicine.
