Richardson will be suspended without pay for the first four games of the upcoming season for violations of the NFL Policy and Program for substance of Abuse after testing positive for marijuana.

24 year old Richardson was expected to be a key part of the Jets defense after two excellent years in New York culminated in a first Pro Bowl appearance last year following his eight sacks.

The new additions made to the Jets squad and the arrival of Bowles in place of Rex Ryan as head coach had created talk of the top defense in the NFL being that of the Jets. However, the loss of Richardson could be a huge blow as he will be permitted to train with the team, but will not return to the starting lineup until October 5th.
